AEDs and Narcan Boxes

At USF Housing & Residential Education, the safety and well-being of our residents are our top priorities. To support our residents, we provide access to essential emergency response resources, including Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) and Narcan Nasal Spray Boxes.

AEDs

AEDs (automated external defibrillators) are user-friendly, portable devices designed to analyze heart rhythms and, if necessary, deliver an electrical shock to restore normal heart function during sudden cardiac arrest. Each AED is placed in a central, easily accessible location within residential communities, ensuring quick response in an emergency.

Narcan Emergency Response Boxes

Narcan Emergency Response boxes containing naloxone hydrochloride, a lifesaving medicine that rapidly reverses an opioid overdose, can be found in every residence hall across campus. Each box is located in a common area of the hall that can be quickly accessed by staff and residents, if needed. Please see the list below for the exact location of the box in each residence hall.

Residents are encouraged to know the warning signs of an opioid overdose and review instructions on how to administer the Narcan Nasal Spray so they can properly respond if the need arises and they feel comfortable doing so. Instructions are also located above each Narcan Emergency Response box in each hall. We continue to encourage staff and residents to contact 911 for medical emergencies.
