Hazardous Waste
Universal Waste
Waste fluorescent lamps and rechargeable batteries are hazardous and cannot be disposed of as regular trash. At USF, these wastes are managed under EPA’s universal waste regulations (40 CFR, Part 273), which streamline the hazardous waste management standards for these categories of hazardous waste. The streamlined regulations:
- promote the collection and recycling of universal waste,
- ease the regulatory burden on generators and transporters, and
- encourage the development of municipal and commercial programs to reduce the quantity of these wastes going to municipal solid waste landfills or combustors.
