Accounting is instrumental in all businesses, helping to record and report on financial transactions that provide a window into a company’s performance and health for stakeholders and shareholders. Accounting at USF St. Petersburg
Accounting as a profession is highly in demand, and the Lynn Pippenger School of Accountancy prepares students for a rewarding career in the field. The program's small classes on the St. Petersburg campus facilitate individual student attention in on-campus and online settings.
Beta Alpha Psi, an award winning honor society, and The Accounting Society are student organizations that foster strong connections to the immediate business community and provide our students with ample opportunities to meet practicing professionals and gain hands-on experience in internship courses. The program is among the few nationwide that are separately accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) International.
Through additional coursework, accounting graduates are eligible to sit for several different professional certification exams, notably the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) exam. In addition, accounting majors are prepared to enter the Master of Accountancy (MAcc) program. Further study at the graduate level not only enables students to continue developing knowledge and skills, but also positions them to become leaders within the profession.
Faculty in the Lynn Pippenger School of Accountancy in St. Petersburg are experienced teachers with proficiency in traditional areas such as financial and managerial accounting, accounting information systems, auditing, and taxation. Faculty are also specialized in unique areas such as business valuation, forensic and international accounting.
Graduates go on to a variety of careers, including auditing, tax, forensics, business consulting, and corporate compliance. Our graduates enter the workforce understanding the language of business and can assist companies in making decisions based on sound accounting principles. Careers in public accounting include working for firms that provide clients high-level attestation services, tax return planning, compliance work and a variety of consulting engagements.
REQUIREMENTS FOR THE MAJOR IN ACCOUNTING
Always refer to the Undergraduate Catalog for degree requirements. Students will normally begin progress toward the major by taking at least one course from the major core, as these often serve as prerequisites for the electives. Students are urged to consult with the accounting advisor to create the most beneficial set of courses.
