Camps, Conferences, and Summer Intern Housing

Thank you for considering the University of South Florida St. Petersburg for your summer planning needs. Located in beautiful Downtown St. Petersburg, just a few blocks from Central Ave., the university is home to multiple summer camps, conferences, and interns every year.

Internship Housing for Summer 2024 applications will be open starting Nov 15, 2023.

USF St. Petersburg will offer intern housing from May 13, 2024-July 28th, 2024.

SUMMER CAMPS & CONFERENCES

Whether internal or external to USF St. Petersburg, you can rely on our Summer Conferences for all of your conference needs. As a conference organizer, you will be provided with one main contact for all of the conference arrangements including: lodging, dining, catering, event space, recreation center usage, and parking. Camps & Conferences are typically housed in the University Student Center, organizations needing special accommodations may be assigned space in the Ibis Hall.

SUMMER STUDENT INTERNS

Intern Housing for the summer of 2024 will be available from May – July 2024. Interns are permitted to choose their move-in/move-out dates so that they can align with their internship starting and ending dates. Interns stay with us for an average of 70 nights, however, we welcome stays as few as 7 consecutive nights. Intern housing is currently only available in Osprey Hall for Summer 2024.

Parking accommodations are available on campus. Interns will be issued a summer parking pass and conferences can arrange parking for guests as needed.

USF SUMMER CAMPS & CONFERENCES

Background Screening

USF is committed to providing a safe environment for all children participating in Summer Programs sponsored by USF or held on USF Property. Florida law requires that individuals involved in summer programs for children be screened every year through the Clearinghouse to ensure that all program personnel have undergone required background checks.

USF Summer Programs must have all Background Screenings processed through the USF Department of Human Resources prior to the beginning of any Summer Program in accordance with the applicable procedure. Read details about the process.

Waivers/Parent Release Form

A waiver is required to be collected for each camp/conference participant. The waiver must state that the University of South Florida St. Petersburg is released from responsibility for participation in the camp/conference activity. A copy of each waiver must be available for review by USF St. Petersburg upon request.

Emergency Action Plan & Disciplinary Action Plan

Camp/Conference Coordinators must submit an Emergency Action Plan (EAP) & Disciplinary Action Plan (DAP) prior to the start date of the program. An EAP must include:

  • Medical information of participants including emergency contact information for each participant. (medications, allergies, etc.)
  • Scheduling information for any off-site trips.
  • Severe weather / natural disaster preparations.

A Disciplinary Action Plan (DAP) is a communicated approach to handling conduct situations with camp participants.The following behaviors should be addressed in the DAP:

  • Possession of drugs or alcohol.
  • Violence, including sexual abuse or harassment.
  • Hazing, bullying, and cyberbullying.
  • Theft and damages.
  • Procedure for participant removal from campus.

In addition to the DAP, participants and staff must abide by all University regulations and may be removed from the program for non-compliance.

NON-USF SUMMER CAMPS & CONFERENCES

Background Screening

USF is committed to providing a safe environment for all children participating in Summer Programs sponsored by USF or held on USF Property. Florida law requires that individuals involved in summer programs for children be screened every year through the Clearinghouse to ensure that all program personnel have undergone required background checks.

  • All summer camp personnel must complete a Level 2 Background Screening, which includes; owners, operators, employees and volunteers that provide care for children. Volunteers who assist on an occasional basis for less than 10 hours per month do not need to be screened, as long as a person who meets the screening requirement is always present and has the volunteer in sight. All employees and volunteers under the age of 18 must be screened.
  • Level 2 Background Screening requires fingerprinting for statewide criminal history checks through FDLE and national criminal history checks through the FBI and may include local low enforcement checks.
  • Third-Party Summer Programs are responsible for obtaining their own clearances, and must provide proof of legal eligibility, as determined by the Department of Children and Families, in the form of Background Screening Result Summary documents, produced through the Clearinghouse, for all Program Personnel and an Affidavit of Appropriate Background Screening.
  • These documents must be provided to the USF Department of Human Resources at least 7 (seven) days prior to the beginning of the Summer Program in accordance with the applicable procedure. Read details about the process.

Liability Insurance

The Organizing Group agrees to provide liability insurance covering the Purchaser and program participants for property damage, personal injury, and death in an amount not less than:

  • $3,000,000 for Event Coverage
  • $1,000,000 Per Person
  • $2,000,000 Per Occurrence

Proof of Liability Insurance and Endorsement are required prior to the camp/conference start date and must include “State of Florida, the Board of Governors of Florida, and the University of South Florida Board of Trustees” as additional named insureds.

Evidence of such insurance shall be provided no later than ten (10) working days before the camp/conference start date.
