Students join hurricane hunters as they prepare for historic Hurricane Beryl mission
A group of undergraduate students visiting USF as part of a summer research program got an unexpected and rare glimpse of the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) Hurricane Hunters preparing to go on their first reconnaissance mission of the season. USF honors student chosen for prestigious summer internship at marine sanctuary
Audrey Brandt is interning with the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary in California, one of the largest federally protected marine sanctuaries in the United States. Brandt's journey began after being selected for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Ernest F. Hollings Scholarship Program.

USF English professor to co-edit Florida anthology as part of Duckwall Professorship
Julie Buckner Armstrong, known for her expertise in the civil rights movement and southern literature, has been named the Duckwall Professor of Florida Studies for the 2024-2026 academic years. As part of the Duckwall Professorship, Armstrong will begin focusing on her next book, an anthology of literary works from Florida.

The Research Experience for Undergraduates program gives students the research skills needed for graduate school and future careers. More than 40 students from across the country are spending their summer at USF St. Pete, immersing themselves in research focused on oceanography, weather, climate change and science communication.

Outstanding Young Alumni recipient puts his political science degree to work at U.S. Space Force
Kyle McIntyre credits the guidance and support he received at USF St. Petersburg for his success at a young age. As one of six recipients of USF’s Outstanding Young Alumni Award, he is amazed at how far he has come since graduating with a political science degree in 2015. McIntyre, 35, is the deputy director of congressional affairs at Headquarters U.S. Space Force.

Kevin MacKay is determined to make his road trip to see a total solar eclipse better than the one he took with students in 1999. Moments before the big event, clouds rolled in, obstructing their view. On April 8, MacKay will get a second chance, informing his classroom about the phenomenon in the process.

An interdisciplinary team of faculty and students turns environmental impact data into music
USF Anthropologist Heather O’Leary turned her coastal impact data into music that people could understand and enjoy. The project, CRESCENDO, is an interdisciplinary group of faculty and students working together to create and disseminate moving music about the environment.
